In most cases, yes. Basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas and many melanomas can be removed as an outpatient procedure under local anaesthetic. You go home the same day.

What happens to the tissue that is removed?

It is always examined histologically. The report shows whether the tumour has been removed completely and is usually available after a few days.

What if the margins are not free of tumour?

Then further surgery follows. Where the findings are unclear, we plan a two-stage approach from the outset and close the wound only once the histological result is available.

Will there be a scar?

Every incision leaves a scar. By placing the incision along the skin tension lines and choosing the appropriate wound closure, we keep it as inconspicuous as possible.

No. A realistic outcome is an improvement of 50 to 70 per cent. The complexion becomes noticeably calmer, but scar-free skin cannot be created.

No. The acne has to settle first, otherwise new scars keep forming. Acne treatment itself is covered by statutory health insurance.

Typical signs are tense jaw muscles in the morning, headaches on waking and wear facets on the teeth – often it is the dentist who notices first. We examine the jaw muscles and discuss whether the treatment makes sense for you.

No. The dose is chosen so that only the maximum contraction force is reduced – chewing, speaking and facial expression remain unaffected.

Does botulinum toxin replace the occlusal splint?

No, the two complement each other: the splint protects the teeth, botulinum toxin reduces the muscle force behind the grinding. We are happy to coordinate the treatment with your dental practice.

The effect lasts about four to six months, so two to three treatments a year are usual. In many patients the intervals become longer over time.

Twelve to eighteen months. Because the material sits deep and in a region that moves little, it lasts longer there than, for example, in the lips.

Not with anatomically correct placement and a restrained amount. The overfilled look comes from too much material placed too superficially – we work deep, and across several sessions where a lot of volume is missing.

Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved completely within a few days using the enzyme hyaluronidase.

The most significant complication is a vascular occlusion caused by inadvertent injection into an artery. That is why the treatment belongs in the hands of doctors who know the course of the vessels and keep hyaluronidase available as emergency medication.

Yes. Expect mild swelling for two to three days; small bruises are possible but easy to cover.
