Lip Volume & Lip Contour

Beautiful lips are a question of proportion, not of size. We emphasise the contour first and dose volume so that the result suits the face.

Contour first, volume afterwards

The most common cause of an unnatural result is not too much material but material placed in the wrong position. We therefore work in a fixed order: first the definition of the border of the red of the lip (vermillion border), then the philtrum with the cupid's bow, and only last of all volume in the body of the lip. This preserves the individual shape of the lip and merely draws it more clearly.

The ratio matters too: a harmonious lip has an upper-to-lower-lip ratio of about 1 to 1.6. Anyone with a very narrow upper lip needs more there – not the same amount everywhere.

What can be treated

  • Loss of volume and contour with increasing age
  • Asymmetries between the left and the right side
  • Fine vertical lines on the upper lip (smoker's lines)
  • Drooping corners of the mouth – often combined with botulinum toxin
  • Emphasis of the cupid's bow

For a very subtle emphasis without building volume, the LipFlip is an alternative: a few units of botulinum toxin roll the upper lip minimally outwards.

The procedure and the first few days

After an anaesthetic cream, we carry out the treatment in about 30 minutes. The lip has a very good blood supply, which is why swelling is more pronounced here than in other areas – expect two to three days of noticeable swelling. The final result becomes apparent after about two weeks; only then do we assess together whether a fine correction makes sense.

  • Cool the area in the first few hours; no sport and no sauna for 24 hours
  • If you are prone to cold sores on the lips, we give preventive medication – the injection can trigger a flare-up
  • No changing of lip piercings and no cosmetic treatments for two weeks

Our position

We do not treat lips in anyone under 18 and we advise against treatment where the wish and the facial proportions do not match. An honest no is part of medical advice – even if it makes for the shorter conversation.

Costs

We bill lip treatments according to our general hyaluronic acid price structure – from €420 for one millilitre, from €690 for two millilitres (usually one millilitre for the lips). As a self-pay service (IGeL), billing follows the GOÄ private fee schedule; all amounts are final prices including 19 % VAT. To the full price overview

Frequently asked questions

How much do lip fillers cost?
We bill according to our general hyaluronic acid price structure: from €420 for one millilitre, from €690 for two millilitres. For the lips, one millilitre is usually sufficient; how much makes sense is something we determine in the consultation.
How long does the treatment last?
Nine to twelve months. The lip is an area that moves a great deal, which is why the material breaks down faster there than on the cheeks, for example.
How long are the lips swollen?
Two to three days noticeably. The final result becomes apparent after about two weeks.
Will the lips look unnatural?
Not with a contour-led approach and a restrained quantity. We define the border of the lip first and only build volume afterwards.
Is it reversible?
Yes, hyaluronic acid can be dissolved completely with hyaluronidase.
I am prone to cold sores on the lips – is it still possible?
Yes, in that case we give preventive medication, because the injection can trigger a flare-up. Please mention it to us in advance.
